Kishore Upadhyay, expelled from Congress, joins BJP ahead of polls

Kishore Upadhyay, an expelled Congress leader from Uttarakhand, joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday. The INC banned the previous chief of the Congress unit in Uttarakhand for six years for his involvement in “anti-party activities.” He is expected to run for the Tehri constituency in the 2018 state elections.

According to news agency ANI, Upadhyay wanted the suspension lifted and had made his request to the Congress leadership. The Congress party dismissed Upadhyay from all positions earlier this month after his meeting with senior state BJP leader Pralhad Joshi, awaiting further action on the matter.

Furthermore, Upadhyay’s name did not appear on the Congress’ third list of candidates for the 2018 elections, prompting speculation that he will defect to the BJP.
