Manohar Singh, the brother of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, filed his nomination papers as an independent contender for the Bassi Pathana seat on Friday. From the Bassi Pathana seat in Fatehgarh Sahib district, the Congress has fielded current member Gurpreet Singh GP.
Singh had already stated that he will run as an independent from this assembly constituency after being denied the ticket. On Friday, Singh informed reporters that he was running for the Bassi Pathana seat based on the “wishes” of the constituency’s residents.
In response to a query, Singh stated that he is not angry with anyone. He went on to say, “There is no revolt.” Singh resigned as a senior medical official from the Kharar civil hospital last year.
Punjab’s 117 assembly seats will be voted for on February 20, and the results will be counted on March 10.
