Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, is unlikely to campaign for the TMC in Goa’s February 14 assembly election.
Banerjee, who headed for a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh on Monday to campaign for the Samajwadi Party in the state’s assembly election, effectively ruled out her own travel to Goa, saying “someone else is looking into it.” Before leaving for Lucknow on Monday, the TMC supremo informed reporters that she would be campaigning in the most populous northern state for the sake of opposition unity.
Although the TMC will not run in Uttar Pradesh, Banerjee will campaign there because she has a close relationship with SP national president Akhilesh Yadav.
When asked if she will run for office in Pujab, she said no. “We (TMC) are not contesting the assembly election in Punjab.” Punjab will hold a Lok Sabha election in 2024. I’m looking forward to visiting Punjab because I enjoy the folks there. I am familiar with the districts of Punjab because I visited the region when militancy was at its height.
