Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday selected finance serve Lawrence Wong as the Deputy Prime Minister from June 13, making ready for the cutting edge pioneer from his party to lead the country.
The declaration comes two months after Lawrence, 49, was embraced by his friends as the head of the decision People’s Action Party’s (PAP) fourth-age group to succeed the 70-year-old Lee.

Lawrence will go on as the Minister for Finance, and take care of the Strategy Group inside the Prime Minister’s Office, assuming control over this job from the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Heng Swee Keat who had moved to one side as head of the 4G group last April, refering to his age as the explanation.
The Strategy Group manages key needs and issues confronting Singapore over the medium to long terms, for example, populace and environmental change.

Lawrence has our fullest help. I will do my absolute best to assist him with prevailing while at the same time serving close by him as DPM and as Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies,” Heng wrote in a Facebook post.
The Cabinet reshuffle moves Singapore’s administration change process further along after it hit an obstacle when Heng moved to one side as the head of the 4G group in April last year.
The Cabinet has customarily had two Deputy Prime Ministers (DPM) since the 1980s, except for a brief period during the 1990s when Prime Minister Lee was the main DPM ready, and since May 2019, when Heng was the main individual holding the post.
Other than Lawrence’s advancement, eight officeholders will be advanced or given new portfolios and obligations, announced The Straits Times paper.
The most recent reshuffle comes a year after seven fourth-age pastors were given new jobs in a significant rejig in May 2021. Around then, Lawrence was given the key money portfolio.
In April this year, Premier Lee reported that Lawrence had been chosen as head of the 4G group by his friends and that Cabinet priests had certified the decision. The choice was then embraced by all PAP MPs in a party gathering. PTI GS
