The Manipur High Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) brought by the District Hospital, Chandel, requesting that the State government create a blood bank with suitable storage.
Moranthyel Saka’s PIL further requests that the authorities issue specific consequence orders regarding the collection, storage, and supply of blood to patients in need.
The Special Secretary (Health & Family Welfare), Government of Manipur, filed an affidavit-in-opposition on July 4, 2022, detailing the Blood Bank/Blood Storage Centre built at the District Hospital, Chandel. Five rooms have been designated for the blood bank, and information on the equipment given have been published.
He further added that consistent 24 hour power supply was maintained with generator backup in the event of a power outage. On February 26, 2022, a blood donation camp was said to be organized.
The contents of the affidavit were reaffirmed by S. Nepolean, Government Advocate, who also claimed that the blood bank at the District Hospital in Chandel is now fully functioning.
Based on the information provided, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice M.V. Muralidaran noted that a blood bank has been established and is now fully functioning at the District Hospital, Chandel.
“As a result, the major grievance raised by the petitioner in the public interest has been resolved.” “At this point, no cause has been established for this Court to make any directions as to how the Blood Bank should be operated,” the Bench said.
