Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R. Hari Kumar stated on December 3 that the Indian Navy has
assured the government that it will be “Atmanirbhar” (self-sufficient) by 2047.
Speaking at a press briefing in advance of Navy Day, he added that the Navy maintains a
vigilant watch on the activities of various Chinese research and military vessels in the Indian
Ocean region. He said that in the previous year, the Indian Navy had reached a very high
operational pace and that, as India advances, more attention has been placed on the need of
maritime security.
“The government has provided us with Atmanirbhar Bharat clear directions. We have
promised that by 2047, the Indian Navy will transform into Aatmanirbhar, according to the
Navy Chief. According to the Navy Chief, his organisation strives to provide Made-in-India
security solutions for the nation.
