The Padma Bhushan in the Trade and Industry category was given to Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and
Alphabet, on Friday in San Francisco. The medal, which is the third-highest civilian honour in India, was
presented to Pichai by Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the country’s ambassador to the United States. Pichai,
who was born in Madurai, was one of the 17 recipients earlier this year.
The Ministry of Home Affairs announced on the eve of the 73rd Republic Day that Pichai had received
the honour.
”India is a part of me and I carry it with me wherever I go”said Pichai in his personal blog after receiving
the award. Pichai also praised the “Digital India vision” of PM Narendra Modi in his note.
