In an all-party conference held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, in advance of the winter
session of Parliament, the Congress raised concerns over the rapid appointment of the
Election Commissioner of India.
Rajnath Singh, the Union Minister of Defense, served as the meeting’s chair. Prime Minister
Narendra Modi did not attend. Additionally present were Minister of Parliamentary Affairs
Pralhad Joshi and Rajya Sabha Speaker Piyush Goyal. Every session, a meeting is called to
go through the legislative agenda.
According to sources, Congress demanded that the administration explain the circumstances
surrounding the selection of the Election Commissioner without proper consultation.
Additionally, they have urged that the EWS quota in reservations and unemployment be
discussed. Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, the Congress’s leader on the Lok Sabha floor, was in
attendance.
