On December 9 (Friday) at midnight, Cyclone Mandous, which is expected to bring heavy rains and severe winds, might make landfall along the north Tamil Nadu coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota. Wind gusts could reach 85 km/h.
The cyclone, which formed at 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday, is centred over Southwest Bay of Bengal, around 520 kilometres southeast of Chennai and 420 kilometres east-southeast of Karaikal.
On December 8 (Thursday), heavy rains may start to fall across the delta regions and northern Tennessee, but as the cyclone approaches the coast, rain intensity may peak on Friday. On Friday, December 9, and Saturday, December 10, Chennai may have to prepare for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall that could reach 20 cm (Saturday). On Friday, Kancheepuram, Puducherry, Chengalpattu, and Villupuram may get exceptionally heavy rain.
