Prime Minister Narendra Modi has led India to have the “fastest-growing” economy, but “some” in the opposition continue to criticise the nation’s development out of “jealousy,” according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who made the statement in the Lok Sabha on December 12, 2022.
During the Question Period, Congressman from Telangana A Revanth Reddy brought up the topic of the rupee’s depreciation versus the dollar and asked the government whether it had any plans in place to address the situation. The Minister then made the remark.
Mr. Reddy asked, and Ms. Sitharaman responded, “Economy was definitely present in the ICU then. India remained among the “fragile five.” Despite the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, she argued that India had the fastest-growing economy right now. “This is a matter of pride. But they are mocking it,” she remarked. She said, “And, that is proved, and I can read the documents.” According to her, “the policy taken by the US Fed” is the reason why the US currency is growing “stronger and stronger”.
