Hindu nationalism could spread to India, according to a US congressman

According to Andy Levin, a departing Democratic congressman, India is at risk of turning into a Hindu nationalist state.

In his final statement to the U.S. House of Representatives, the 62-year-old Congressman, who identified himself as a “lifelong human rights supporter,” claimed that despite the dreadful circumstances in many parts of the world, the U.S. has achieved more in the field of human rights.

Mr. Levin, who represented the ninth Congressional District from Michigan, said that “I have been a prominent advocate for human rights in nations like India, which is at risk of becoming a Hindu nationalist State rather than a secular democracy, the world’s largest democracy.”
