The Rajya Sabha’s business was briefly suspended on Friday as a result of the Opposition Congress’ continued pressure for a debate on confrontations along the Chinese border.
Since December 13, when reports of skirmishes between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh first surfaced, Congress and other opposition parties have been attempting to bring up the subject. They staged walkouts in the beginning, but since Thursday, they have forced adjournments.
Congress members attempted to start a debate on the topic on Friday by pressing for acceptance of their notifications under Rule 267, but the chair refused to allow it.
