The arrest of Prof. Inamur Rehman, principal of the New Government Law College in Indore, on suspicion of spreading anti-Indian propaganda and encouraging Hinduphobia, was stayed by the Supreme Court on Friday. (Inamur Rehman v. State of Madhya Pradesh)
The Madhya Pradesh government was also asked for a response in the matter by a bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha within four weeks.
A police investigation, faculty suspensions, and Prof. Rehman’s resignation followed the allegations. It involved the two publications “Collective Violence and Criminal Justice System” and “Women and Criminal Law,” both written by Dr. Farhat Khan.
