MHA mandated by Delhi High Court to provide CAPF officers with House Rent Allowance benefits

In Praveen Yadav and Ors v. Union of India and Ors, the Delhi High Court issued an order on Friday directing the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Ministry of Finance to grant House Rent Allowance (HRA) to all employees serving with the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), including officers.

The CAPF consists of organisations like the Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) and the Border Security Force. Only the Personnel Below Officer Rank (PBOR) in the armed police forces are currently eligible for the HRA benefit. Personnel in the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy of all ranks are eligible for the perk.

The order was issued by a division bench of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Saurabh Banerjee, who noted that the government was not permitted to have a biassed viewpoint about people from other forces stationed in the same locations who were applying for HRA.
