On December 19, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar stated that interruptions of House proceedings were not sending out positive messages and that he had called several MPs to meet with him in his chamber regarding the interruptions from the previous week.
Almost the whole Opposition staged a walkout of the House when Mr. Dhankhar rejected letters asking for a discussion on Chinese incursions on Indian borders, claiming they were not written in compliance with the rules.
Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the opposition and president of the Congress, asserted that the Chairman has all authority and may permit a discussion, but Mr. Dhankhar seemed unimpressed.
