After leading Argentina to win in the World Cup final against France, Lionel Messi was awarded the Golden Ball for the tournament’s greatest player on Sunday.
Messi scored twice in the championship match in Doha to bring his tournament total to seven goals. He also scored in the shootout as Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in overtime.
In spite of finishing second to Messi for that honour, Kylian Mbappe was the tournament’s best scorer with eight goals, earning him the Golden Boot. Emiliano Martinez of Argentina earned the Golden Glove award, and Enzo Fernandez took home the trophy for the best young player.
