The Madras High Court ordered the Tamil Nadu government to provide the family of a 72-year-old man who vanished after being transported by State healthcare personnel for COVID-19 therapy in 2020, 1 lakh as compensation on Monday.
Justices PN Prakash and N Anand Venkatesh’s bench argued that even though it would be unfair to hold any one officer responsible for the incident given how difficult it was for the State to combat COVID-19 at its worst, the Court could not ignore the case of a man who went missing after visiting a State-run facility.
It was also mentioned that the State Police had at first declined to file a missing person’s first information report (FIR) in the case.
