Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje said on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will decide whether to continue the PMGKAY programme beyond December, noting that the government has enough foodgrains on hand.
The decision to extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) would be made by the Cabinet, which is presided over by the Prime Minister. On Friday, the Cabinet is expected to meet.
PMGKAY was extended by the government for an additional three months to December 31 in September. According to her, the government spent 1.80 lakh crore over the previous 28 months providing the underprivileged with free rations through PMGKAY.
