Kuldeep Singh Pathania, a five-time MLA, was chosen as Speaker of the Himachal Assembly

Kuldeep Singh Pathania, a prominent member of the Congress and a five-term lawmaker, was unanimously chosen by voice vote on January 5 to serve as Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly.

After being elected, Mr. Pathania was taken to the Speaker’s seat by the Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and the Leader of the Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur.

It was inevitable that Mr. Pathania, the member from Bhatiyyat in the Chamba district, would be chosen because he was the only contender.
