On January 6, 2023, artillery exchanges bombarded the war-torn cities of eastern Ukraine against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unilateral command for his army to cease hostilities for 36 hours.
Putin earlier this week ordered a brief respite in hostilities that was due to last until Friday at 9:00 GMT. It would have been the first such break since Moscow’s invasion in February 2022.
However, following the scheduled start time of the Russian truce, AFP correspondents in the border city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine heard both outgoing and incoming firing.
