If made available, chargesheets could be abused by NGOs: Supreme Court

In a public interest litigation (PIL) that demanded unfettered public access to chargesheets submitted by the police, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Enforcement Directorate, the Supreme Court on Monday reserved its decision (ED). (Saurav Das v. Union of India and others)

However, a bench of Justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar voiced their concerns over the ramifications of the pleas that were made.

The PMLA ruling from last year, which was rendered by a three-judge Bench of which Justice Ravikumar was a member, apparently addressed the problem of the ED’s chargesheets being made public.
