While jersey sponsor Byju’s, which is leaving, wants the board to maintain the present agreement by cashing in a bank guarantee estimated to be worth 140 crores, Star India, the media rights holder for India’s domestic season, has asked the BCCI for a 130-crore cut in the existing agreement.
In the impromptu meeting of the Apex Council on Monday, the BCCI top brass debated the two topics for more than an hour. A virtual meeting was held.
Byju’s informed the BCCI in November that it intended to stop serving as the Indian cricket team’s jersey sponsor, but the board requested that Byju’s remain till at least March 2023.
