South Koreans’ short-term visas are suspended by China as retaliation

According to the Beijing embassy, China has stopped providing short-term visas to South Koreans in answer to Seoul’s implementation of travel constraints on Chinese tourists due to COVID threats.

The granting of short-term visas for Korean citizens will be suspended by Chinese embassies and consulates in Korea, the Chinese embassy in Seoul announced, adding that the regulations would be “modified again in conformity with South Korea’s lifting of the unfair entry restrictions on China.”

In response to an increase in COVID-19 infections, Seoul last month placed a flurry of restrictions on visitors from China, including visa requirements, testing requirements, and some flight limitations.
