Lt. Gen. (retd) Gurmit Singh, the governor of Uttarakhand, approved the bill granting native women of the State a 30% reservation.
According to a statement from the State government released on January 10, 2023, the Governor’s approval of the Uttarakhand Public Services (Horizontal Reservation for Women) Bill, 2022, gave women applicants with “Uttarakhand State domicile” the legal right of 30% reservation in government services and posts.
The anti-conversion and reservation for local women were among the 14 bills that the Uttarakhand state enacted during the State assembly’s winter session. Thereafter, they were presented for approval to Governor’s House. So far, the governor has approved 12 of these bills.
