As part of its defence against claims that its services are detrimental to teenage users, Meta, the company of Instagram and Facebook, announced on Tuesday that it will stop allowing marketers to target ads to teens based on gender.
The social media announced in February that from that point forward, advertisers—the main source of the company’s enormous revenues—would only be able to target advertising at teens globally using their age and geographical information.
According to Meta, the modifications were made in response to comments from parents and professionals and would be in compliance with new regulations in various nations about content aimed toward children.
