Sensex and Nifty closed lower as banking and oil equities fall

The benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty experienced bumpy trading on Thursday as investors choose to be cautious ahead of the publication of data on industrial production and inflation.

Unabated withdrawals of foreign funds have a negative impact on investor confidence.

The 30-share BSE Sensex lost 147.47 points, or 0.25%, to close at 59,958.03 on the day. It dropped 473.18 points, or 0.78%, to 59,632.32 over the day. The NSE Nifty index as a whole decreased 37.50 points, or 0.21%, to settle at 17,858.20.
