On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court ruled that the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), also known as paramilitary forces, are considered to be members of the Union’s armed forces and are thus entitled to the same benefits under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) as the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The government orders and officer memorandums (OM) were overturned by a division bench of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Neena Bansal Krishna to the degree that they prevented paramilitary force personnel from receiving OPS benefits.
The Central Reserve Police Force, Shashtra Seema Bal, Border Security Force, and Indo Tibetan Border Police are all part of the CAPF (ITBP).
