On January 12, six YouTube channels that were “operating in a coordinated fashion and propagating misleading information in India” were shut down by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.
The six YouTube channels Samvaad TV, Nation TV, Sarokar Bharat, Nation 24, Swarnim Bharat, and Samvaad Samachar were discovered to be “working as part of a coordinated misinformation network,” had close to 20 lakh subscribers, and had had their videos viewed more than 51 crore times.
Six distinct Twitter threads with more than “100 fact-checks to refute the bogus news pushed by these networks” were published by the PIB Fact Check Unit of the Ministry. This is the unit’s second such act in which whole channels have been disrupted.
