For the production and maintenance of 9000 HP electric freight locomotives, Siemens, India has been awarded a contract of Rs.26,000 crore, excluding taxes and price variation.
Over the course of 11 years, approximately 1,200 high-horsepower electric locomotives (9000 HP) will be produced, and the maintenance time will be 35 years.
The Indian Railways factory in Dahod, Gujarat, will be where the locomotives are put together. Four depots of the Indian Railways, one each in Vishakhapatnam, Raipur, Kharagpur, and Pune, will conduct maintenance.
