On January 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned BJP members against making “unnecessary remarks” about movies. In his speech to party members at the BJP national executive, the prime minister reportedly said, “No one should make superfluous comments that will overtake the hard work we perform.”
According to sources who spoke with PTI, Mr. Modi implied that such comments would put the party’s development agenda on hold.
Some party leaders frequently criticise films for “hurting” people’s sentiments, with the most recent example being Pathaan with Shah Rukh Khan.
