PM Modi tries to maintain the BJP’s southern policy during a meeting

The conclusion of the BJP’s national executive meeting in New Delhi on January 17 has highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s worries over the party’s political trajectory in the southern States.

Throughout the two-day meeting of the national executive, Mr. Modi made a number of interventions that reveal the BJP are struggling with some fundamental concerns related to how to interact with the established regional parties in these States and one satrap inside its own party in Karnataka.

Senior BJP insiders claim that Mr. Modi praised Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay, who has been travelling the State for some time. A source present at the meeting stated, “Not just praising, Prime Minister Modi also requested five leaders from every State unit to engage in the yatra.
