Alphabet Inc. is laying off 12,000 employees, according to a worker memo that was seen with Reuters.
The layoffs are the most recent to rock the technology industry and come just days after rival Microsoft Corp. announced it will fire 10,000 employees.
Teams from across the organisation, including recruiting, some corporate departments, some engineering, and product teams, are impacted by the job losses. According to Google, the layoffs affect employees immediately in the United States.
