In a first for the nation, the Kerala government on Thursday issued an order allowing female students in all state-run higher education institutions to take menstruation leave.
In contrast to the 75 percent requirement set forth in the University Rules, girl students are now permitted to take their semester exams with a 73 percent attendance rate, according to the State Higher Education Department’s decree dated January 19.
Additionally, it said that all female students over the age of 18 are eligible for up to 60 days of maternity leave.
