Congressman Rahul Gandhi stated that his security had been breached as the Bharat Jodo Yatra approached the Kashmir Valley on Friday, forcing him to take a bullet-proof car to the next destination rather than walking 16 kilometres along the highway in south Kashmir’s Qazigund as originally planned.
But the J&K police denied his claims of inadequate security.
Police officers who were meant to control the gathering and hold the rope were absolutely absent from the scene. I had to call off my yatra [for the day] because my security personnel felt quite uneasy about me continuing the yatra. In order for us to conduct the yatra, I believe it is crucial that the police control the crowd, Mr. Gandhi told reporters.
