A mosque blast in Peshawar, Pakistan, left 61 people killed and 150 injured

On January 30, 2023, a Taliban suicide bomber detonated himself in a mosque full of worshippers during afternoon prayers in the high-security area of Pakistan’s unrest-plagued Peshawar city, killing at least 61 people and injuring more than 150 others, largely policemen, according to officials.

Around 1.40 pm, worshippers, including members of the police, army, and bomb squad, were saying the Zuhr (afternoon) prayers inside the mosque in the Police Lines neighbourhood.

According to officials, the bomber who was sitting in the front row detonated himself, forcing the ceiling to collapse on the worshippers.
