In order to relieve congestion at the Mumbai international airport, the Adani Group has planned to implement a twin-airport strategy for the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports.
The first step involves moving operations of turboprop aircraft to Navi Mumbai airport. By moving small aircraft operations to Navi Mumbai, which is anticipated to start operations by December 2024, the initiative aims to free up runway capacity at the Mumbai airport.
The group also intends to relocate a significant airline from Mumbai Airport to Navi Mumbai International Airport. At the moment, the main airlines serving the Mumbai airport are IndiGo, Vistara, and Air India.
