In a case that dates back ten years, a Gandhinagar court today convicted controversial godman Asaram Bapu of routinely raping his female follower for more than five years and sentenced him to life in jail.
Additional Sessions Judge DK Soni pronounced the order today.
On Monday, Asaram was found guilty of violating Sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 354, 346 (wrongful detention), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
