In response to rumors that Viacom18 is planning to combine its leading OTT platform Voot with JioCinema in order to live stream the Indian Premier League in 2023, Viacom18 has stated that no official announcement has been made in this regard and that it expects the two platforms to remain independent. “We haven’t released any such information.
Voot is still available as a standalone app. Currently, there are no plans to combine or move. According to Anil Jayaraj, CEO (Sports), Viacom18 Media, “We will be creating Jio Cinema on the back of what we have in terms of existing Jio Cinema programming as well as future acquisitions.”
Through the rights to FIFA, cricket, badminton, tennis, handball, and most likely the Olympics and hockey, Viacom18 hopes to establish itself as a player who can support the growth of each of these companies on its own.
