After losing the IPL rights, Hotstar lost 3.8 million subscribers in the December quarter.

Disney+ Hotstar is already feeling the effects of losing the IPL’s streaming rights to JioCinema, owned by Viacom18. Analysts predict that it may lose 30–40% of its subscribers.
At the end of October 2022, Disney+ Hotstar had 61.3 million members, but over the final two months of the year, it lost a few million of them. Overall, the platform’s subscriber base decreased by 6%, or 3.8 million, during the December quarter to reach 57.5 million. Disney+ saw a net loss of 2.4 million customers globally as a result of Hotstar’s user exodus, the streaming giant’s first drop in subscribers in the two years since its debut.
It’s interesting to note that The Walt Disney Company had anticipated this decline in Hotstar subscribers as a result of the IPL’s absence on the platform.
