March Istanbul: Turkey said on Monday that NATO talks with Sweden and Finland will take place next month after being postponed in January due to protests in Stockholm. “The meeting will take place on March 9,” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said at a press conference in Ankara with his Hungarian counterpart.
Requests to join NATO must be ratified by all members of the alliance, of which Turkey is a member.
However, Ankara was angered by the January protests, which included the burning of a Koran outside the Stockholm embassy.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the other hand, warned Sweden that he does not support Sweden’s attempt to join the US Western Défense Alliance.
