As many as five Naxalites were killed in clashes with security forces in Chatra district, Jharkhand, police said on Monday. Of the five Maoists, two received a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh each and the other two received a reward of Rs 5 lakh each. The encounter took place along the Chatra-Palamu border in the area of Law along police station, about 160 kilometres from Ranchi.
Police said the five Nassars who were killed included — Gautam Paswan and Charlie were both members of the Special Area Committee (SAC) and each received a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh, Nandu, Amar Ganjhu and Sanjeev Bhuiyan were Commandant members of the divisional committee and received Rs. 500,000 each.
“Five Maoists were killed and several others were wounded by bullets. The bodies of all the red rebels have been found,” said Chatra SP Rakesh Ranjan. SDPO Ashok Priyadarshi said the shooting began around 8:30 a.m.
Chatra SP Rakesh Ranjan said many weapons and ammunition were also seized from the scene.
“Weapons seized included two AK-47 rifles and two domestically made rifles. The search is still ongoing,” he said. Further details are awaited.
