The National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) has imposed a four-year suspension on Indian weightlifter Sanjita Chanu, a two-time winner at the Commonwealth Games, for failing a drug test last year. Additional Sports News
At the National Games in Gujarat in September and October of last year, Sanjita tested positive for an anabolic steroid called Drostanolone Metabolite that is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) list of prohibited substances.
Sahdev Yadav, president of the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF), verified the news.
Sanjita will lose her silver medal at the National Games as a result of the positive test, which is a major loss for her.
At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Sanjita defeated Mirabai Chanu to win gold in the 48 kg division. She won the 53kg division title at the 2018 competition in Gold Coast.
